What to do in Chamonix during winter ?

First of all, book your ski instructor and mountain guide, ask directly from Walser Chalet for your guide for you to discover:

⇒ Chamonix valley is divided in 4 main ski areas, Les Grands Montets, Brévent/Flégère, Balme Vallorcine ski area and Les Houches without forgetting  the famous Valley Blanche off piste glacier skiing.

Chamonix offers a multitude of slopes for all levels, each ski area having its own merit. Tremendously long slopes, skiing through the trees, freeride and off-piste, beginners slopes : an infinite number of possibilities for snowriders and mountain lovers alike.

Balme - Vallorcine ski area (1453m - 2270m)

Ski nature : accessed from either way the village of Le Tour or Vallorcine, Balme - Vallorcine ski area and its snow-covered alpine pastures or Vallorcine wood covered side offer numerous possibilities on two distinct mountain sides. From Charamillon, enjoy the wide open gentle slopes for beginners overlooking the entire 360° Chamonix valley view and on the Vallorcine side, ski beautiful tree-lined pistes bordering on Switzerland. Balme - Vallorcine offers endless opportunities for all skiers and snowboarders.

29 km of ski slopes, 20 slopes including 8 red, 11 blue and 1 area for new snow sports.

Grands Montets ski area(1235m -3300m)

The pistes are spread over three slopes - the Argentière glacier, Lognan and the Pendant which also offer magnificent off-piste, known throughout the world and essential for freeriders. The quality of the snow coverage is remarkable up until May. For freestyle enthusiasts, a snowpark and a boardercross are open in the Lognan area. You can ski back to the resort on the Pierre à Ric ski slope.

28 km of ski slopes, 17 slopes including 6 black, 4 red, 5 blue and 1 snowpark.

Brévent/Flégère ski area (1030m - 2525m)

Panoramic skiing. These 2 ski areas have been linked by a cable car since 1997 and offer one of the most outstanding panoramas of the Alps. South-facing slopes with a wonderful variety of pistes and enviable views over the Mont-Blanc Massif. Gently acquire a tan in this idyllic environment whilst enjoying skiing on slopes adapted to all skiing abilities.

56 km of ski slopes, 32 slopes including 7 black, 7 red, 13 blue, 4 green and 1 snowpark

Les Houches ski area ( 950m -1900m )

Family skiing. An exceptional 360° view of the Mont -Blanc panorama opens from the top of the ski area: 55 km of marked forest trails allow you to discover all the pleasures of skiing. The resort also has a snowmaking system with other 120 snow guns spread over the ski area.

Other snow sports

Snowshoeing and pedestrian snow trails

For those who prefer walking silently in harmony with their surroundings rather than striding along hastily, snowshoeing is an ideal way of discovering the local fauna and flora, peacefully muffled in its winter cloak. Pedestrian marked trails are accessible between Chamonix and Vallorcine. The trails are marked on all cross country ski maps which are available from the tourist office, 6 kms of groomed footpaths in Vallorcine.

Dog-sledding

If you dream of the trapper’s life, take a taster or a beginner’s lesson in dog-sledding. 
You will appreciate the quiet, the crunching of snow under the runners, and the panting of the dogs that will mark the rhythm of your day and make you forget the stress of daily life.

Ski joëring

If you both like skiing and horses, why don't you discover Ski Joëring, a green way to enjoy the nature! Drawn by good-natural horses, this original form of back-country skiing is respectful of the environment and tremendous fun ! Activity adapted to both adults and children (from 7 years old), provided they can use a drag lift.

Cross country skiing

Vallorcine cross country plateau offers you more than 10 km of groomed skating and classic cross country’s slopes, really close from the Chalet Walser.
